Hans Wegner Valet Chair

Designed for Johannes Hansen

A functionally designed top rail accommodates a hanging suit jacket, while the seat provides storage.

Beautiful patina on the oak frame and teak seat. Wegner conceived the design in 1953 after a talk with Professor of Architecture Steen Eiler Rasmussen and designer Bo Bojesen about the problems in folding clothes in the most practical manner at bedtime. Original brass hardware details.

The seat when open reveals box like storage for miscellany.

About the designer: Hans Jørgensen Wegner

Hans Jørgensen Wegner (2 April 1914 – 26 January 2007) was a Danish furniture designer. His work, along with a concerted effort from several of his manufacturers, contributed to the international popularity of mid-century Danish design. His style is often described as Organic Functionality, a modernist school with emphasis on functionality.

Wegner has been referred to as the “King of Chairs” for his proliferated work designing seating. In his lifetime he designed over 500 different chairs, over 100 of which were put into mass production and many of which have become recognisable design icons.
