Description
About the designer: Rudolf Bernard Glatzel
Rudolf Bernd Glatzel, also known as Rudolf B. Glatzel, was a German designer and interior architect. He was born in Hamburg as the son of a prestigious Hamburg carpentry family. After studying at the Hanseatic School of Fine Arts in Hamburg (which he had to leave in 1944 due to a war injury), he became a lecturer at the Werkkunstschule Hildesheim in 1948. There, he taught interior architecture and furniture design.
Glatzel’s minimalist design influenced the product lines of renowned manufacturers such as Walter Knoll, Kill International, Thonet, Fristho, and Dreipunkt. Many of his designs are now considered iconic examples of furniture design from the 1960s and 1970s. Their design language is comparable to the works of Kjaerholm and Fabricius/Kastholm.
