About Modern World
“The year was 1975. A five year old me spent my weekends being marched around antique fairs; from dawn till dusk.
My mother had the ‘eye’. She may not have known the designer, but the design itself, the weight, the quality, the look… gave her all she needed.
I was more interested in the possibility of an old Action Man to reward my patience; but in truth the experience was something I loved.
I’ve spent 50 years doing other stuff, but now life has come full circle.

Our West Sussex home is also available as a location for both photographic shoots and film making.
With four floors and over 700 square metres of Georgian town house (built in 1805, with every detail fully restored over the last 18 months), the property is fully furnished in a style that complements the designs we sell through Modern World.
Primarily focussing on mid-century pieces, we regularly rotate our own furniture through the site, so often those items for sale come directly from our family home.
The garden follows a similar theme and features an extensive range of Willy Guhl designs, through to a modern-day Matthew Hilton picnic house; set against the back drop and character of the property, designs spanning a 70-year time frame simply work together.
